Delete your account
You can delete your Brainmute account and all the personal data linked to it at any time. This is free of charge and does not require an active subscription. This page explains how to delete your account, what exactly gets deleted, and how to ask for a copy of your data.
1. Delete your account in the app
The fastest way is directly inside the Brainmute app:
- Open Brainmute.
- Tap your profile picture at the top right to open You.
- Scroll to ACCOUNT and tap delete account (shown in red).
- Tap delete. We send an 8-digit code to the email address of your account.
- Enter the code and tap delete forever. This step is final. The code expires after 10 minutes.
This immediately and permanently deletes your account and all personal data on our servers that we are not legally required to keep. Your account can only be deleted while you are signed in and with the code sent to your email, so no one else can delete it for you.
Your subscription is not cancelled automatically. Deleting your account does not end a subscription you bought through Google Play. Please cancel it first in Google Play under Subscriptions, otherwise Google may keep charging you.
2. Delete your account by email
If you have already uninstalled the app or can no longer sign in, you can still request deletion:
Send an email to support@brainmute.app from the email address of your Brainmute account and ask us to delete your account.
We will delete your account without undue delay and at the latest within one month of your request (Art. 12 (3) GDPR). To make sure we only ever delete the account of the person who actually owns it, we may first ask you to confirm a detail of your account.
3. What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove all personal data connected to it from our servers, unless the law requires us to keep it. This includes:
- your account and login (email address and password)
- your profile and display name
- your streak, level and time balance
- your mission calendar and your settings
- your subscription information and the records of your subscription events on our server
- internal log entries that contain your user identifier
- your record at RevenueCat, our provider for subscription management, that is the subscription status and purchase history stored there under your account ID
This cannot be undone. If you use Brainmute again afterwards, you start from zero.
4. What stays on your device
Brainmute also stores your day-to-day progress locally on your phone. Data that never leaves your device, for example your local settings and your app lock configuration, is not held on our servers. It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data in your Android settings.
5. What we keep after deletion
After we delete your account, we keep only a non-identifying record that a deletion took place, consisting of a timestamp without your user identifier. We keep it so that we can demonstrate we acted on your request, in line with our accountability duty (Art. 5 (2) and Art. 17 GDPR). It does not identify you. If RevenueCat reports a subscription event after the deletion, we discard it.
6. Request a copy of your data
You also have the right to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR). Send an email to support@brainmute.app from your account address and we will respond free of charge, at the latest within one month.
7. Cost and timing
Deleting your account and requesting your data are always free of charge (Art. 12 (5) GDPR). We act without undue delay and at the latest within one month of your request (Art. 12 (3) GDPR).
